There’s been a lot of rumours and speculation over the past few months since Panasonic unveiled their alliance with Leica and Sigma at Photokina and briefly introduced us to their two new full-frame mirrorless cameras; the Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R. Now, they’re finally here. Well, at least to pre-order. But here’s all the info, specs and capabilities.

Matt Higgs at London Camera Exchange had the chance to take one out for a spin in Hallstatt, Austria. In this video, he goes over the specs, and tell us what he thinks about using the camera in a real world shoot environment.

As you can see, overall it looks pretty good, although not all features will ship with the camera. Some features, such as P-log, aren’t supplied by default and are only available as paid upgrades. This always felt a bit weird to me, to intentionally cripple a camera and then charge users to unlock features the camera’s already capable of. But, that seems to be the way things are going. Canon also does this with C-log on the 5D Mark IV and Panasonic’s done it in the past, too with V-Log for the GH4 and GH5. So, it is what it is.

Photographer and YouTuber Darryl Carey has had a chance to play with the Panasonic S1R in Taipei, Taiwan and has posted a video on his thoughts about that one. The two cameras seem largely the same, though, aside from the resolution of the sensor.
