Shooting storms is an incredible experience, and many of us are attracted to it. Daniel Modøl from Norway was filming a heavy thunderstorm from his deck – when suddenly a lightning struck incredibly near him. It destroyed a part of his backyard and deck, missing the man for only a couple of meters. In the video, you can see two lightning bolts striking before the one that hit the backyard....
Accsoon has announced its newest video transmitter, the Accsoon CineView SE. It’s an SDI and HDMI wireless transmitter and receiver pair for on-set and on-location monitoring with latency below 50ms. This is around 0.05/sec, which is very impressive at this price point. It’s a dual-band system, operating on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies simultaneously with a maximum range of 1200ft. Accsoon says the dual-band wireless system “intelligently identifies” interference and combines the two signals together as needed into a complete single stream....
Disagreements between celebrities and photographers aren’t all that uncommon. On Wednesday night, famous actor and comedian Bill Murray got into a dispute with photographer Peter Simon at a Martha’s Vineyard restaurant Lola’s. According to the police report, Murray accosted Simon and he looked furious. And there were some “Do you know who I am?” that emerged during the conflict. As Boston Globe reports, Simon was on an assignment for The Martha’s Vineyard Times when Murray assaulted him....

This is a “soft, nonabrasive” material for cleaning the glass and displays on your Apple devices. There’s even a “compatibility” list. Photomontages belong to photography on the one hand, but on the other – this technique is art on its own. French artist Laurent Chéhère has created a series that’s a real example of this. His composites are created from photos, but with the reality of their own. Laurent’s series Flying Houses depicts the architectural objects floating in the air. It’s only the power lines that hold them, and they all seem as if they’re ready to get loose and fly away....
An astrophotographer captured a half million-mile-long plasma plume as it shot out from the surface of the sun. The plume is known as a coronal mass ejection and was part of a minor solar storm. The image was created by capturing hundreds of thousands of images over several hours using a specially modified telescope. The image was captured on September 24 by astrophotographer and Arizona resident Andrew McCarthy. His images are well known for their extraterrestrial beauty and fine attention to detail....
Every year, there are a dozen major meteor showers and they’re a real treat for stargazers and astrophotographers alike. Geminid is one of the last ones, and tonight is your chance to capture it. On 13 and 14 December, the annual Geminid meteor shower is at its peak, so get your gear ready and find a nice and dark spot to take some shots. When the 5.2″ Atomos Shinobi was announced only last month, it got a lot of people very excited with its 1920×1080 pixel 1000 nit 427ppi touchscreen IPS display. Now we have a nice, fairly inexpensive HDMI field monitor capable of displaying 4K footage over HDMI with all of the usual bells and whistles we’ve come to know from Atomos’s higher-end recorder monitors. The folks with higher-end cameras weren’t so pleased, though....
There are generally two types of astrophotography. There’s the kind that’s more like landscape photography, where the skies form a part of the overall scene with the ground, and then there’s the kind where the skies are the main subject and focus of the images.
