Not long ago, Sony launched the 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS, a “lightweight monster.” What first comes to mind with the lens of this focal length is wildlife and sports photography. Japanese app developer Kazuya Noshiro has recently introduced an app he’s working on. It uses iPhone X’s face-tracking feature in the creepiest and the coolest way possible: it makes his face invisible. In a short video he shared, he shows off his see-through face and the room behind him. It’s unsettling and amazing at the same time. For the past two years, French photographer Etienne Clotis has worked on a project named ICONIC. This interesting series of photos depicts the iconic people: musicians, painters, actors, fashion designers and many others who marked their era. With great fashion designer and make-up artist, Etienne turns his models into these people, and the resemblance is remarkable. Etienne started this project in 2016, and since then, it has evolved into a huge work of art and passion....

While technically, this clip is described as a sped up video, I am going to let it fall under the timelapse category, because some achievements need to be celebrated. This 30 seconds sped up video timelapse was taken from a camera on top of the first stage booster as it descended back to earth and landed on a pad in the Atlantic Ocean – the SpaceX droneship OCISLY. In the video, we see the first stage starting four gridded fins, then doing a flip and starting re-entry....

Yet again, we hear another story of not just one somebody, but 8 somebodies almost being hit by a train for a photo shoot on active train tracks. Venus Optics has been known for a variety of unique and weirdly cool Laowa lenses. The company is now entering the world of cine lenses and it has announced a 25-100mm t/2.9 and a 12mm t/2.9 lens for EF and PL mounts. During my recent visit to the USA, I decided to forego the lightweight travel tripods and go with something a little more substantial. Something that could stand up to all day use at NAB 2019 as well as trekking around the Arizona landscape. I also needed something that would work for video. So, my tripod for this particular adventure was the Manfrotto 190X Video tripod & 500 fluid head. The ideal setup for shooting video at NAB, but some might think it a little unusual for landscape photography....

But Dutch artist Ard Gelinck took this “then and now” comparison to a whole new level. They’re often touted as the alternative to UV filters as a way to defend your lens against the evils of the world that might otherwise turn it to glass dust. But, no, their primary function is actually to flag stray light from entering into your lens and causing flare....

If not, this is a specialty filter designed to balance the lighting conditions between foreground and background at sunrise or sunset – when the sun (and therefore brightest part of the image) is at the horizon. It’s like the plot of a low budget movie. Pierce County Sheriff’s Department in Tacoma, Washington, says that they have arrested former Colorado Springs mayoral candidate, Juliette Parker, and her 16-year-old daughter. The charge? Well, they say she allegedly posed as a newborn photographer in an attempt to steal a baby from a new mother using a drugged cupcake. According to a post, which Pierce County Sheriff’s Department shared to their Facebook page, 38-year-old Parker had advertised in a baby group on Facebook, offering free newborn photo sessions in order to build up her portfolio....

For those who’ve never seen it, the YouTube channel Every Frame a Painting it’s run by Tony Zhou and Taylor Ramos. They dissect movies. But not in the way many other channels do. They talk more about the psychological, metaphorical, symbolic and emotional side of movies, rather than the technical. It truly is a gem. I mean, to amass more than 1.3 million subscribers with only 28 videos, the majority of which each have over a million views, they must be doing something right....

Richard Johnson of Spectacle Photo has done something extra-special. He’s taken a regular, photographic convention and applied it to Photoshop. The Floridian photographer mounted, framed and hung his Photoshop floppy disks in his office. We spotted his brilliant idea here, in a post on Facebook, and it’s drawn some attention. Over 100 people have left comments about their memories of Photoshop. Many people have chimed in with the version they started with, while a few others specifically recall loading version 1....
