Venus Optics has launched a new lens for DJI X7 cameras on DJI Inspire 2 drones. Laowa 9mm f/2.8 DL Zero-D is the widest lens yet for these cameras, and the “Zero-D” stands for “zero distortion.” Despite the very wide angle, the lens is designed to reduce the optical distortion to a close-to-zero level.

It’s worth noting that this lens already exists in Fuji X, Sony E, and Canon EF-M mounts. Just like these versions, the latest 9mm f/2.8 for DJI X7 features an ultra-wide 113° angle, covers Super35-sized sensor and has a close-to-zero distortion.

Venus Optics notes that the Laowa 9mm is significantly wider than the currently widest DL lens in the market (i.e. 80°). This allows aerial cinematographers to capture more in limited distances. The f/2.8 aperture also provides more flexibility for aerial videography in low-light conditions. Here’s how Laowa 9mm f/2.8 DL compares to the DJI 16mm f/2.8 DL:
